AT&T Selling Connecticut Operations to Frontier

December 17, 2013|Dan Haar. AT&T has reached a deal to sell its wireline business in Connecticut to Frontier Communications for $2 billion incash, ending a 15-year venture that led to thousands of job losses as the number of regular phone lines declined, technology improved and the company moved support operations elsewhere.

Stamford-based Frontier, which operates in 27 states, will take over the old Southern New England Telephone Co. business, which legally still has that name. The operations include 2,700 employees, 900,000 wireline telephone connections, 415,000 Internet connections and 180,000 U-verse video subscribers for a total of $1.25 billion in annual revenues, along with the network itself and a lease at AT&T's New Haven offices.

Verizon Responds to Shareholders’ Concerns on User Data

By Brian Chen, New York Times Bits. 12/12/13. Verizon Communications has taken an aggressive stance against a proposed shareholder resolution that would require it to be more forthcoming about the customer information it shares with the government.

Activist investors sent the resolution to Verizon and AT&T in November. AT&T said last week that it opposed the resolution, and Verizon has taken an even harder stance.

New York City Metro PCS Workers Vote to Join CWA

New York City retail store employees at a MetroPCS store in Harlem voted Wednesday for a union voice and representation by CWA. The vote was 7-1.  The number may seem small, but it's a huge victory for these workers and for thousands more across T-Mobile US who want representation to address their issues on the job. MetroPCS merged with T-Mobile US earlier this year.

Response to AT&T Mobility Restructuring

AT&T Mobility announced a restructuring of certain positions in the retail stores in early July. Managers had meetings with retail employees to explain the new structure. The Finance Representative positions are being eliminated and they are planning to reduce the number of Sales Support Representatives across the country. This impacts approximately 25,000 workers in AT&T Mobility.
