By-Laws Changes Will Help Local Save $ and Give $ Back to Members

If you haven't received a ballot yet, call 1-800-529-5218 immediately to request a duplicate. You should have received a ballot in the mail with 3 proposed changes to the Local’s by-laws. The goal of the changes is to 1) put money back in members’ pockets and 2) cut costs at the Local.

New Labor Studies Class: Collective Bargaining

Local 1101, in partnership with CUNY-Cornell, is offering labor studies classes at the Local. Students earn 4 undergraduate credits from the CUNY School of Professional Studies, which they can put toward the CUNY-Cornell Certificate Program in Labor Relations if they choose.

The Local 1101 General Membership/Budget Meeting will be held Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at 5:30pm at the Fashion Institute of Technology College. 227 West 27th Street (@ 7th Avenue) in Manhattan.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk Oct 20

On Sunday, October 20th CWA Local 1101 will be co-sponsoring the annual MAKING STRIDES AGAINST BREAST CANCER walk at Orchard Beach in the Bronx. We will be marching side by side with other unions, organizations, and plenty of goodhearted people to support the amazing survivors and to honor the lives of the ones who we lost.

2013 Scholarship Award Winners

Local 1101 has a long-standing and proud tradition of awarding scholarships each year to members and their families. This year we were proud to announce a new scholarship established to honor the memory of former President of CWA Local 1101 Ed Dempsey.

The number of scholarships awarded each year is determined by the Executive Board based on the funds available. This year nineteen scholarships were awarded.

Local 1101 Scholarship Award: 17 recipients will receive $1000 each.

Dennis Diemer Scholarship Award: 1 recipient will receive $1000 each year he/she is in school, recurring automatically for up to four years (*This is in addition to the former winners who are still receiving payments of their award).

Ed Dempsey Scholarship Award: 1 recipient will receive a one-time payment of $5000.
