Spring 2016 Labor Studies Classes: Collective Bargaining & Contract Administration

CWA Local 1101, in partnership with the Cornell-CUNY Labor Relations Program, will offer a class on Collective Bargaining on Monday evenings, beginning February 1, 2015 and Contract Administration on Wednesday evenings, beginning February 3. New students must apply by January 8.

Nov 10 Day of Action: Fight for $15 & Union Rights

Join CWA on Tuesday, Nov 10 in support of the Fight for $15 and Union Rights. Rally at Foley Square in lower Manhattan, 4:30 - 6:00 pm. Fast food workers led a successful campaign to raise the fast food minimum wage to $15/hour earlier this year. Now the fight is for a $15 minimum wage for everyone. When we fight together we all win. These brave men and women are helping transform the debate on workers' rights. We've stood with them in the past, and we'll be there on November 10. Join us! We're all in this together.

CWA at the NYC Labor Day Parade

Members from Local 1101 and CWA locals throughout the area marched up Fifth Avenue in the NYC Labor Day Parade to spread the word about our fight for a good contract at Verizon and Verizon Wireless.

Congratulations! 2015 Scholarship Winners

Local 1101 has a long-standing and proud tradition of awarding scholarships each year to members and their families. The number of scholarships awarded each year is determined by the Executive Board based on the funds available. This year seventeen scholarships were awarded.

Contract Ratified at LIU-Post

The new collective bargaining agreement between The CWA and LIU-Post has been ratified by the union membership at Post -LIU. The membership at Post-LIU voted to endorse the new contract by an overwhelming margin of 191 to 5. The bargaining team consisted of National Representative Edward Baxter, Vice President Patrick Lascala , Business Agent Joe Ventola, Chief Steward Dr.Geoffrey Lasky and Steward, Professor Robert Bogle.

Fall 2015 Labor Studies Class: Arbitration

CWA Local 1101, in partnership with the Cornell-CUNY Labor Relations Program, will offer an Arbitration course in Fall 2015. This is a great opportunity to learn about grievance procedures, labor arbitration, and what factors arbitrators look at to resolve disputes. The course is open to all Local 1101 members.

Seeking Volunteers: St Margaret's House Garden Day

St. Margaret’s House is a Senior Center sponsored by the Parish of Trinity Church. Local 1101 volunteers from our Community Service Committee will be helping St Margaret's on Garden Day,  Saturday, May 15 from 9am to 12pm.  If you can come help work on the garden, trim plants and plant flowers, please let us know!
