Standing Up With Nurses

Nurses speaking on the picket line at Montefiore/Weiler talked about "hallway patients" who had to sleep on stretchers - and chairs - in the hallways for days. The nurses contract at  Mt Sinai, Montefiore, and NY Presbyterian expired six weeks ago, and they're bargaining for safe staffing ratios and better conditions.

"As nurses, our patients are really sick and we don't have the time to not only take care of them properly but to do things like comfort a patient who is dying, or deal with the family with a family member with a terrible illness To give the TLC that people need, or even to medicate them properly and timely, and do the things that patients have a nurse to take care of them for," said New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA) President Judy Sheridan-Gonzalez.

CWA Local 1101 walked the picket line with NYSNA members at Montefiore/Weiler Hospital in the Bronx today. We'll be there to support them every step of the way in their fight for better working conditions and better care for patients.
