Women's History Month at 129 St garage
Technicians at the 129 St Verizon Fios garage organized a Women's History month event to celebrate women's contributions to history - and the phone company - past and present. The 129 Street Connection Team put together a great program that included a "Did you know" trivia show highlighting womens' accomplishments and performed the skit 'A Day in the Life' of a female Verizon technician.
Local 1101 shop steward Pam Galpern talked about the 1973 sex discrimination case against AT&T/Ma Bell and interviewed Anita Lathan, the second female Chief Shop Steward in CWA Local 1101. Anita led a two year fight for female Maintenance Administrators to win a long-overdue upgrade and equal pay in the mid-90s and is now an active member of the 1101 Retired Members Council. Verizon VP Yolanda Stancil told her story, and took questions from the technicians.
The 129 St Connection team includes Local 1101 members Kenneth Aponte, Nolan Bruce, Colin Gibbs, Yadiyah Loussaint, Rita Palacios, Diona Richardson, and Foluke Robles. CWA Local 1101 VP Mike Baxter, Business Agents Josey Diomede, Heather Trainor and Pete Torres attended the event. Thanks all for a great celebration of Women's History month.
