RIP Monique Williams

Monique Williams was a Customer Sales & Service Representative at Verizon. She died on February 3, 2021 from COVID-19. “Anyone who knew Monique will tell you she was a great person to talk to. If you talked to Monique, you were going to laugh. No matter what you were going through, she would be able to make you smile,” her longtime friend and co-worker LaShawn McClarin said.

Monique was born in Manhattan and lived in the Bronx. She started at the phone company in 1996 at 5030 Broadway, then worked at 140 West St and 395 Flatbush Extension. She was a member of CWA Local 1105 for many years, and Local 1101 most recently.

“Monique was always a people person,” Lashawn said. “Family and friends said she was the ‘life of the party.’ Co-workers said when speaking with her they would always have a good laugh. Sometimes we’d be traveling home from work, and I’d say ‘I’m not going to talk today, I’m tired.’ Two train stops in, Monique would start a conversation and next thing I’d know we’d have talked for 40 minutes and I’d always end it with a laugh. She was a great conversationalist.”

Annette Hinds Garcia, also a longtime friend and CSSC at 395 Flatbush recalled Monique helping so many people. “Monique had such a giving and generous heart. She was ready to help anyone with anything she could, always putting others first. She was great to be around. She had a big family and cared about them deeply. Family was everything to her. In fact, she made me feel like I was family,” Annette said. “Not having her around to speak to every day is what I miss the most. She will be missed by all.”

Monique is survived by her sister Shaquayia Williams and five kids in love. She has eleven grandkids and two great grandkids. Her fiancé William Harrison preceded her in death in 2013.

RIP Monique. You will be missed.
