Broadband $$ Going to Starlink, not Verizon

Bad news. New York was in line to receive millions of dollars in federal funding for fiber deployment through the Broadband Equity Access and Deployment (BEAD) program. This would’ve expanded broadband access in underserved areas across NYS, and helped create more work for CWA members and more union jobs. But in June the NTIA changed the rules in order to redirect the funding. New York’s latest plan gives 25% of the work to Elon Musk’s Starlink and only 7.5% to Verizon. Sign the petition today to tell NTIA to reinstate the fiber preference and labor standards. Link in story.

Today we remember and honor the members and retirees we lost to 9/11 related illnesses and we stand with the members and retirees who are battling 9/11 illnesses today.
