Congratulations Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson!

On behalf of the National Women's and Civil Rights and Equity Committees:

We take this opportunity to celebrate the confirmation of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, the first Black woman confirmed to the United States Supreme Court. This historic moment will be cemented in the minds of women and young girls for generations to come. After overcoming immeasurable institutional barriers, Judge Jackson, the nation's first African American woman, shattered the glass ceiling and the nation welcomed her with pride.

Her confirmation will bring a higher level of diversity and life experience to the Court. Her dedication to human rights, women’s rights, worker rights, and economic justice will ensure that our voices are heard.

People around the world are celebrating this moment as a victory not only for the Black community but for women and working people as well. She is a role model to many, as she stands on the shoulders of past leaders and role models on her own, we are confident that Judge Jackson will equitably defend the constitution, ensuring justice for all.

And while this is an historic moment, let us not forget, that we all witnessed an event that took centuries to accomplish. Judge Jackson was confirmed with a Senate vote of 53-47, yet she is eminently qualified to serve the people. And we must not forget that Judge Jackson is the fifth woman and only the third African American to serve on the Supreme Court in its 232-year history. We will celebrate for now, but let this be your call to action! We must continue to strategize, mobilize, and organize!

Congratulations Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson!
