CWA Disaster Relief Fund for Los Angeles Members

I'm reaching out to discuss the devastating impact of the wildfires currently ravaging California, particularly in the Los Angeles County area. An official state of emergency has been declared as the flames continue to blaze, tragically claiming the lives of at least 27 individuals, destroying over 12,000 structures, and consuming more than 60 square miles of land. The Palisades and Eaton wildfires remain active, wreaking havoc on our communities.

Our Union Brothers and Sisters are facing unprecedented challenges, with many losing everything they have. Air quality throughout the area is plummeting to hazardous levels. The ongoing drought conditions only exacerbate this dire situation. During times like these, we must come together as a family, extending our support to those in need.

I want to remind you that District 9 has established the CWA District 9 Disaster Relief Fund specifically to assist our members impacted by these catastrophic fires. Every dollar contributed to the CWA District 9 Disaster Relief Fund will go directly to helping our CWA and affiliate members with shelter, clothing, and essential household items.

You can donate to the wildfire relief fund here: www.cwa-union.org/ca-wildfires

Please note that donations are not tax-deductible.

Additionally, the national CWA Disaster Relief Fund is also available to support our members affected by the fires. You can access the relief fund documents here.

The path to recovery and rebuilding for many CWA families will be long and arduous. Your generous contributions can make a significant difference in the lives of our brothers and sisters facing these challenges.

Thank you for your solidarity and support during this critical time.

In Unity,

Ameenah Salaam
Secretary-Treasurer
