Dec 4 - A Historic Day for Phone Workers . . . and Congratulations to our New Retirees

December 4, 1989 marked the end of the 4 month strike at NYNEX. 60,000 workers struck and thirty-one years later, we are still reaping the benefits of the sacrifices and gains made during that strike. A number of the union members who walked the line, flew in the flying circus, and made that strike victorious retired this week. We salute you and thank you for all you've done to make our union as strong as it is today.

December 4, 2014 was the 25th anniversary of the strike, and CWA Local 1101 organized a rally that night at Verizon headquarters at 1095 Avenue of the Americas to kick off our 2015 contract campaign. CWA members from all five boroughs and Long Island came to tell Verizon "We walked then, we will strike again" And we did. The contract campaign lasted a year and a half and stretched from Massachusetts to Virginia, culminating in the 2016 strike where we held the line against Verizon's concessionary demands and returned victorious.

When we fight, we win! Happy December 4 everyone and best of luck to our new retirees. We are 1101!
