Labor Studies Classes for College Credits
Are you interested in learning more about labor history, labor law, unions, and working people's struggles? Do you want to be in dialogue with workers and activists from other unions in NYC? Do you have an undergraduate degree you need to finish?
The CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies offers undergraduate and graduate level classes to working adults who want to learn more about the history of unions and labor struggles, labor law and arbitration, and issues confronting working-class people in the workplace and the community.
CWA Local 1101 has a long-standing partnership with the CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies (SLU). Many of our officers, chiefs, stewards, and members have taken classes over the years, completing the Certificate in Labor Studies, a Bachelor's or a Master's degree.
The classes are generally held one evening a week in midtown Manhattan. SLU projects that 70% of the classes for next semester will be held in person, the rest virtual.
CUNY SLU is a approved school by Verizon's tuition assistance program. Local 1101 members from other bargaining units may be eligible for tuition assistance from their employers, and if not are eligible to apply for CUNY SLU scholarship funds.
Applications for the Spring semester are due December 15, 2021. Classes start in late January 2022. More information about how to apply is here.
