CWA Endorses Scott Stringer for New York City Mayor

Scott has been a close friend to CWA for over 25 years. From the New York State Assembly to Manhattan Borough President to NYC Comptroller, in every elected office he’s held, Scott has fought for workers first and foremost.

Scott has devoted his career to this city and the working families who live here. From the issues that affect workers on the job to his progressive vision of government, Scott gets it. He knows that the key to recovery and a growing economy is strengthening the rights of the working people who keep this city going.

We could list dozens of ways in which Scott has stood with us over the years, but we’ll stick with six big ones:

Walked every single picket line we've ever had. Anytime we've been on the front lines fighting for fair contracts, anytime we’ve asked for help from our elected leaders, Scott has answered the call and been there walking the lines with us.

Helped win a years-long battle for equal pay for CWA Local 1180. Scott is committed to pay equity and ending discrimination, and strongly supported Local 1180's legal case to remedy decades of discriminatory pay practices.

Supported the four-year fight of Brooklyn Cablevision workers to win a first contract. Scott joined press conferences and rallies and demanded an end to James Dolan’s union-busting at Cablevision. He helped us win a first contract for the 250 Cablevision (now Altice) workers in Brooklyn.

There for us in the fight to keep jobs at 140 West Street. When Verizon decided to move thousands of jobs out of 140 West Street so they could convert much of the building to luxury apartments, Local 1101 reached out to then-Manhattan Borough President Stringer for help. He did everything he could to help us stop the move.

Implemented prevailing wages for USIC underground locating workers. When they first joined CWA Local 1101, USIC workers were paid as little as $12/hour. Scott supported CWA’s efforts to get USIC workers covered under NYC's prevailing wage law, bringing their top wages up to over $30 an hour.

Joined our fight for Safe Staffing in hospitals and other health care institutions. Even before the COVID-19 pandemic made it starkly clear that our healthcare centers are understaffed, Scott recognized the vital need for safe staffing levels and spoke out to demand protection for workers and patients.

New York City is facing a crisis like no other in our history. In order to recover, rebuild, and move forward to a stronger community, we must elect a leader who will put the needs of working families above the interests of big corporations and the ultra-rich.

The next Mayor of New York must be a champion for the working people who are the backbone of this city, and that’s why we’re proudly endorsing Scott Stringer!

CWA Local 1101 President Keith Purce said: “Working New Yorkers need a mayor who is a champion of workers’ rights - and has the record to prove it. Time and again, Scott Stringer has shown up on our picket lines, taken on corporate greed, and fought for the people over the powerful. That’s the kind of mayor we need, and we’re proud to support Scott for mayor.”
