Worker Retention in Call Centers Bill Passes NYS Senate!

Great news on our work to pass the Worker Retention in State Contracted Call Centers bill! We got it passed in the NY State Senate!

The bill was drafted specifically for 250 CWA 1101 members at E-ZPass who are currently fighting to protect our jobs and our union after the MTA awarded the E-ZPass project to a new provider in 2020. Currently there are no worker protections in the existing procurement laws. State Senator and Labor Committee Chair Jessica Ramos was our lead sponsor on the bill.

This amazing win comes after three months of intensive lobbying by Local 1101 rank and file members both in the district and in Albany. Pictured below are Local 1101 members Bertino Correa and Joanne Christie with Anthony Reinhardt, Deputy Chief of Staff for Senator Lanza. Great job to the awesome CWA Local 1101 political activist team led by Legislative and Political Action Director Mike Basso.

Passing the Senate in such a short time was truly amazing, but we still have a lot of work to do. Now we need to get the bill through the Assembly. Click here to send an email to your Assembly members on the Worker Retention in Call Centers bill, the bill to end captive audience meetings by employers, and the bill to make striking workers eligible for unemployment benefits after one week.
