As we reach a tragic milestone of 100,000 deaths due to COVID-19, we find ourselves confronting the other plague that has been rampaging through our communities since long before the pandemic: Racism. Compounding the devastation of a global pandemic, which has disproportionately impacted Black communities, Black people in America continue to face threats, brutality, and death for going out jogging. For being poor. For sleeping in their own bed. For watching birds in a park. For being Black.

VZ Back-up Care Plan for Child/Elder Care

Verizon announced the next phase of the backup care program which took effect May 16, 2020. "We are continuing the emergency in-home reimbursement arrangement (up to $100 per work day) that was set up as part of the COVID-19 response with some administrative changes noted below that will allow for inclusion of the reimbursement in your paycheck. You will continue to be able to use your own personal network/caregiver of choice and request reimbursement directly through Verizon".

RIP Dennis Bradt

It is with a heavy heart that we commemorate Dennis Bradt, a CWA Local 1101 member who died on May 13 from COVID -19. Dennis held a number of different positions at Conifer Park, most recently as an Addiction Technician. "I had the privilege of getting to know Dennis over these past years and he was as stand-up as they come," said Local 1101 Business Agent Ken Spatta. "He lost his long, hard fought battle with COVID at just 29 years old. Our prayers and the condolences of all of CWA Local 1101 go out to his family and friends."

In light of COVID-19 Verizon/CWA joint Regional and Local Work Family Committee has updated the Health & Wellness benefits. Since gyms are closed the Committee will accept Home Fitness Subscriptions to the program.
