Congratulations Local 1101 Scholarship Recipients 2022-2023

Congratulations to the winners of the Ed Dempsey and Local 1101 Scholarships. We received many applications and were able to award 24 Local 1101 scholarships of $1000 each, and one Ed Dempsey Scholarship of $5,000. Click the story headline for a list of the scholarship recipients.

NY TV and Film Post Production Coordinators Vote to Join CWA

On June 9, 2022 a group of freelance post production coordinators in New York unanimously voted for union representation with the Communications Workers of America (CWA), becoming the first post production coordinators in New York’s motion picture industry to win formal union representation. The workers, members of CWA Local 1101, filed for separate National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) elections at eight major studios.

CWA Verizon Bargaining Update

As you already know, CWA IBEW and Verizon began meeting for a three week period to attempt to negotiate the terms of a possible extension to the collective bargaining agreements that are set to expire in August 2023. We have agreed with the Company to continue meeting for the rest of this week and if necessary, to extend the negotiations into next week.

Thank you to the hundreds of Local 1101 members and retirees who responded to our call to action these past two weeks to block One Touch Make Ready and protect union jobs. WE WON! Did your emails make a difference? THEY DID! As the NYS legislative session closed, the NYS Assembly voted unanimously to pass our bill to protect our jobs and stop dangerous One Touch Make Ready regulations!

As we inch closer to a deal, wages remain a sticking point. We have agreements on many very good improvements for every group in the Orange Contract, but the Company still needs to reach into their pockets to secure fair raises. AT&T has been making record profits, paying executives millions of dollars and paying dividends to their shareholders. It is time they also take care of their employees.
