Verizon Summer Camp Reimbursement Program is Open, and includes virtual camps

The 2020 Summer Camp reimbursement program includes summer day programs as well as overnight camp programs and is made available through the Local and NY/NE Regional Work & Family Committees, a joint labor management committee. Summer Camp and Dependent Care programs are bargained for benefits. Due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Company will be allowing employees the opportunity to apply for virtual summer camps this year.

Today, June 23 is Election Day in NYS: Make Sure You Vote!

Today, June 23, is primary election day in New York State. If you haven't already voted by mail or by early voting, please make sure you vote today. If you have an absentee ballot that you haven't sent in yet, you can mail it as long as its postmarked TODAY, June 23. If you requested an absentee ballot but haven't received it yet, you must vote in person. You can check if you're registered and your poll site location here. If you vote by mail remember to SIGN & DATE the Oath Envelope - otherwise your ballot will be invalid. If you've already mailed in your ballot but forgot to sign the oath envelope, you are encouraged to vote in person. CWA Local 1101 members have been phone banking and campaigning for a number of candidates, including City Councilperson Ritchie Torres for Congressional District 15 in the Bronx, Yuh-Line Niou for reelection to the NY State Senate in Assembly District 65 in lower Manhattan, and Eliot Engel for reelection to Congressional District 16 in the Bronx and Westchester County. Here is the full list of CWA District 1 endorsements in New York State. Make sure you vote!

Juneteenth @ AT&T Mobility

AT&T Mobility workers wore black today to celebrate Juneteenth, the holiday commemorating the day in 1865 when Union troops announced in Galveston, Texas that all remaining slaves were free - almost two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. AT&T members also wore black to demonstrate their anger at AT&T Mobility for taking advantage of the pandemic to cut jobs and close stores. Earlier this week AT&T announced they would cut thousands of jobs across the country, and would permanently close 250 AT&T Mobility and Cricket stores. This is on top of 41,000 jobs AT&T has already cut, despite getting major tax breaks with promises to create jobs and raise wages. AT&T members in NYC, all in black, made clear what they think of AT&T's recent announcement and broken promises.

CWA Calls on NY City Council to Pass Just Cause Rights for Essential Workers

We're calling on the New York City Council to pass the proposed “Just Cause Rights” Legislation to protect essential workers against unjust termination and safeguard whistleblowers who call out dangerous and hazardous working conditions during COVID-19. Whether in healthcare, food delivery or grocery stores and pharmacies, essential workers are risking their lives every day at work throughout the COVID-19 crisis. For these New Yorkers, doing their jobs has become a matter of life and death. They deserve adequate health protections, including personal protective equipment (PPE), so they can keep themselves, their families and their communities safe.
