Local 1101 and NYSNA demand NY fund our healthcare centers

CWA Local 1101 and New York State Nurses Association members joined together outside Jacobi Hospital in the Bronx on Tuesday. The action is one of many across New York State this week demanding that New York raise revenue and fund our healthcare centers. Our healthcare centers need adequate funding to protect the health and safety of the workers and the patients they care for.

CWA Local 1101 awarded $25,000 in scholarships this year. We were able to award four additional $1000 scholarships in memory of Pat Dempsey who recently passed. The next Federal COVID relief package, the HEROES Act, which the House of Representatives passed back in May, is stuck in the Senate. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has stalled the bill because he opposes extending unemployment protections and aid for State and Local Governments. Nearly 300 E-ZPass customer service call center workers, members of CWA Local 1102, are fighting to keep their jobs on Staten Island. The New York State contract to provide E-ZPass customer support for the MTA is open for bid, and we need your help ensuring that the MTA retains the current workforce in these good-paying jobs on Staten Island! Bids are due August 7th, so we need to move fast to ensure that these jobs are protected.

CWA Supports July 20 Day of Action Demanding Justice for Black Lives

CWA Stands in solidarity with the tens of thousands of workers in 25 cities who marched, protested, and in some cases went on strike today to highlight racial and economic equality. "The National Strike/Day of Action is a worker-driven action to demand that bosses and elected officials address the systemic racism that drives economic inequality in this country. We are demanding guaranteed sick pay, affordable health care, strengthened health and safety protections for essential workers, and stronger organizing rights for all workers."
